Project Overview
TB-project handled the Japan portion of the Hong Kong film Last Song for You, shot on location in Kochi Prefecture.
The Hong Kong production team was looking for a striking coastal location where they could capture a “daruma sun” — a distinctive sun effect seen near the horizon.
TB-project searched locations across Japan and provided end-to-end support, from location selection and pre-production through to on-site production in Kochi.
Challenge
The Hong Kong production team needed a visually striking coastline with an unobstructed sunset over the horizon and the possibility of capturing a “daruma sun.”
Within a limited budget, we had to identify a location somewhere in Japan that matched the visual concept while also taking into account shooting conditions, access, permits, and the feasibility of setting up a local production team.

What We Did

Researched and selected suitable location candidates across Japan

Result
The film, including the scenes shot in Kochi, was screened at film festivals internationally and received multiple awards and nominations for its cast and director.

Why TB-project
Working within a limited budget, TB-project handled the location scouting and advance coordination with a two-person core team, then assembled the necessary Japanese crew shortly before filming. This helped maintain production quality while keeping the location shoot efficient and cost-conscious.
We also communicate directly with Hong Kong production teams, without the need for an interpreter or intermediary coordinator.
Because we understand not only the language but also the different working styles of film production in Hong Kong and Japan, we can quickly grasp the production team’s intentions and move smoothly from pre-production through to the shoot itself.

From Japan Production to Japan Release — Continued Support Throughout
TB-project has continued to support the project following completion of the shoot, including coordination for visits to Japan by cast and filmmakers, stage greetings, and other activities connected with the Japanese release.
Opening nationwide from December 18, 2026, including YEBISU GARDEN CINEMA and Akatsuki Theater.
